CHC of Fort Dodge Expands Services to Include Eye Exams
January 2025
Fort Dodge— In response to a growing need for accessible eye care, Community Health Center of Fort Dodge, Inc is proud to announce they have begun performing eye exams at their Fort Dodge location. This new service, designed to meet the needs of underserved adults and children, is part of the health center’s ongoing effort to improve the health and well-being of the community. Eye exams will be available Monday through Friday, 8 AM to 5 PM.
“We’re excited to start offering eye exams in Fort Dodge, with plans to expand these services across all our locations as we continue to improve logistics,” said Renae Kruckenberg, CEO of Community Health Center of Fort Dodge, Inc. “Our goal is to ensure that all individuals have access to the vision care they need, regardless of their circumstances. With the ability to accept a variety of insurance plans, including Medicare and Medicaid, we hope to make eye care both accessible and affordable for as many community members as possible.”
Eye exams will be conducted by an optical technician, who will guide patients throughout the visit, with an optometrist performing the exam. For patients with Medicare, Medicaid, and most major insurance plans, including EyeMed and Avesis, we accept insurance to help cover the cost of exams. A sliding fee scale will be available for uninsured or underinsured patients.
In the event of abnormalities or concerns detected during an eye exam, patients may receive referrals to primary care providers or ophthalmologists. While Community Health Center currently offers eye exams only, patients will be able to obtain glasses or contact lenses from local providers or through online ordering.
Colleen Miller, COO of Community Health Center, shared, “This initiative perfectly aligns with our broader mission of providing a comprehensive approach to healthcare. We are dedicated to taking care of the whole person—medical, dental, behavioral health, pharmacy, social services, and financial advocacy. With the addition of eye health services, we are further expanding our commitment to meeting the diverse healthcare needs of our community.”
